Sheila Esther Wee profile

After graduating from University of York (UK) on Singapore Government scholarship, Sheila Wee pursued on career in The Ministry of Education. In her tour today, she taught in the Gifted Programme in Raffles Institution and served as Vice Principal of Victoria Junior College. In HQ, she pioneeded work in teacher professional development and championed school innovation policies. Today Sheila spends all her time coaching and mentoring people to unleash and maximise their potential with who they become and what they can do in life.

Sheila will be sharing on children learning style, which I think very critical for myself to learn too because my kids grown up fast and change learning style real fast too! Besides that she will be sharing what type of good brain food can help our children…I'm sure you will learn a lot from her like I do!

Right Brain Kids Art - Parent sharing sessions on the way...topic about "How to DIY at home with young toddler in art?"

It has been long time enquiry from parents on how to DIY at home with their young toddler in art or preparation for early learning .... hmmm.. I been replying the same query in my email many times... after considering on how to help parents more effectively, I'm planning to have this workshop with parents. Basically the topics covered :

1. Basic knowledge of how to purchase the right kids art crafting material while young at 18 mths to 3.5 yrs old
2. Different art medium such as crayon, oil pastel, acrylic, water colour, poster colour, tempera colour etc
3. How to DIY at home, what are good lesson plan can do at home?
4. How to identify kids learning style?

10 only limited seats due to space constraint with minimum charging.

Class Outline

Kids can draw as young as 18 months. During children from age 18 months to 6 months, right brain is the most active period. you can simulate your child's talent by training the right brain ability such image training, photographic memory and creating arts. From age of 7 years to 12 years, left brain dominant will take part, while the right brain still has it's skills to support the left brain.

Right Brain Kids Art Missions

I teach children art through stimulate their learning ability. With the requirement given, our children will discover the problem solving solution and produce an unique art piece. This will build their intuitive thinking, will help them in their future life on problem solving skill and learning interest. Below are four objectives:

1.Thinking ability

2. Creativity Imagination

3. Observation

4. Have Fun to Express and Relax

Program outlines
- 10 sessions per term

-Each lesson will be conducted according to Right Brain Kids Art assessment booklet. (Litter Junior, Little Young and Little Talent Artist)

- During the session, we will introduce Right Brain stimulation game and training, different color medium, to explore different painting / drawing techniques, with a fun crafting session to learn various problem solving and motor skills training.

- Right Brain drawing foundation training includes visual recognition, eye training, memory and observation training.

- for 3.5 years old above and Mum & Tot for 18 months to 3 years old.

Module details
1. Line, Shapes, Structure, Color concept, Human structure and animal structure study.

2. Right Brain Drawing Technique and training.

3. In Door Drawing (Still Life, Memory Drawing)

4. Art Crafting (Scrapbooking, 3D Art, Linking Memory Art, Geography Art, Design Art)

5.ECA out door trip

Right Brain Parenting sharing session up coming topics

1. How to DIY at home brain train my young toddler?

2. Sharing my experience of my children HFMD 手足口症 and how I manage their diet to prevent them from infected by it again. Both my children has HFMD 手足口症 since 2007 to 2008 3 times infected. I managed to get it reduce chance in 2009 till now. I will share about during HFMD dietary control, and after recovered followup etc

3. How to help my active child to learn? Especially sit still and focus on something...

Right Brain Kids Art - Is it a brain training enrichment school ?

Right Brain Kids Art is teaching about how to draw using right brain by shutting down the left brain i.e pre-assumption of an object. For example instead of drawing an object such as Doggie soft toy, I always ensure children go thru visual recognition practise 1st. Once they have done this practise (right brain observation training), then will switch them to draw from an object or outdoor drawing. Draw by looking at the object most of the time instead of drawing with pre-assumption.

Right Brain drawing is about - Observation, Creativity, Fun

Left Brain drawing is about - Immitation, Copy, Follow

Both skills are critical for our children to have strong learning foundation, regardless of acedamy or non-acedamy.

I cannot promise that Right Brain Kids Art is brain training to become art genius.... but I can cultivate learning interest in art...hope this can clarify here.:)

Yuxin started to learn drawing from Jas a year ago. She was exposed to different forms of art e.g. still life drawing, patterns, shades, charcoal drawing, free style etc, and a range of crafts like scrap book, egg craft, clay works etc. She engaged well with my girl and guided her patiently. She is also a creative teacher who have lots of fun ideas to share with the class.

Yuxin's observation has improved as this skill is emphasized in the lesson. e.g. the concept of perspectives, angles are taught in class. Thus, when she observed her surroundings, she will share these findings with us. She is also very involved in her own art projects, putting her ideas into reality. I think it is partly because Jas never limit her imagination but guided her along the way and imparted her the necessary skills.

Keng Chin - Mummy of Yuxin (5 years old)

Ker Ru started her art journey with Teacher Jas when she was about 2 years old. Many schools will not take in very young children. We are very thankful to Teacher Jas for teaching Ker Ru. As Teacher Jas is using right brain method to teach art, Ker Ru always looks forward to her art lessons as they are full of surprises. An eye opener for the parents too. Mummy becomes more creative after attending the lessons with her.

Teacher Jas has exposed her students to different forms of arts and different medium. Ker Ru learnt a lot of art techniques from her. They included different colouring techniques, acrylic painting, canvas painting and even charcoal drawing. Ker Ru enjoyed the craft works done at Teacher Jas's class. Some of them were mosaic art, kite, mask, models etc. Most of all, she loved the outdoor drawing sessions and Museum tours that Teacher Jas organised.

Peck Hiong - Mummy of Ker Ru (6 years old)

My daughter attended teacher Jas’s class from 15 months onwards. It is really an amazing class for her. She learns how to communicate with other children, how to draw different shapes, how to make hand craft, how to differenciate colors, and art history as well. Till now, she is still learning how to draw using different method from Jas.

To me, it is a quite a different lesson compared with other normal art classes. Jas is not only teaching her art skills but also right brain development and other skills, e.g. georgaraphy knowledge, English writing etc.
In addition, we have a lot of free outdoor activities, which children can learn and enjoy arts together. I think my daughter likes this class a lot as she always asked me “ when is teacher Jas art class ?”.

Iris - Mummy of Casey (5 years old)

Learn the skill of using folds as a method to divide a page into sections. Learn to form a picture through pasting coloured papers. Acquired a liking for pasting activities using glue and a liking for painting using coloured paints.

My Passion

I'm very passionate towards art since primary 3, since then I never stop drawing and painting.

I want to open an Art school to educate parents how to do Rigth Brain Art with kids at home.

I took up Fine Art and Visual Art in NAFA. After I have my own children, I believe we can draw by 18 months year old. Some parent fascinated by Selina drawings and interested to let their child to learn the same.

During children from age 18 months to 6 years old, right brain is the most active period. you can simulate your child's talent by training the right brain ability such image training, photographics memory and creating arts.

In 1980-1990 is a left brained world, but from late 1990s till now the right brain is critical. Right brain talent of creativity, design, 'ah-ha' ideas, all come from right brain imaginative ability. It's has no logic, no common sense, no timeline. Nobody can tell you how, the idea just came to you, that's the right brain.
