Right Brain Kids Art - How do to identify my child's learning style?

How do to identify my child's learning style?

In summary there're 3 styles
1. Listening
2. Visual
3. Hands-on

1. Observe the child while playing toys either are they movement oriented with multiple toys or consistently one toy. If movement multiple toys, they learn mostly hands on. The best to enhance the child learning in art crafting

2. Observe the child while playing music. Either the child will sing and dance along, also if the child can sing the lyrics, that is very fantastic. They learn mostly on listening skills. The best to enhance the child learning is music or dancing, speech and drama

3. Observe the child responds while reading books to them or watching education program. If the child's eyes very focus and shows excitement expression. They learn mostly on
visual. The best to enhance the child learning is outdoor painting, flash cards or cultivate reading environment at home...or invest education VCD watching for 30 mins at most.

4. Last but not least the best way to know is by asking your child everyday..."what do u want to do today?" For my son Enzo, he will say "I want to do art and craft" He is more hand-on touching to learn.. For Selina "I want to teach Enzo writing, I want to read books", she is learning by teaching others and visualizing. Thus when Selina was young, I actually practise a lot her learning style thru flashing flash cards at least 50 per day from age 1 - 3.

Here's some tips sharing to parents or teachers who are finding ways to teach or learn for children more effectively. Perhaps DIY at home, "The Best Teacher for children is the Parents"

I have been 4 over years of art teaching, I found out the way of Right Brain Kids Art that I been teaching is involving listening, visual and hands-on

Listening - I play alpha wave or children rythms to relax the child mind. I think during that it opens their right brain to learn more things

Visual - I shows visual art concept thru big cardboard and flash cards. Since the child right brain is "opened" the flash cards images and the illustration I shown is inprinted into their brain

Hands-on - The drawing and handling of art painting, crafting stuff is practising what they have learnt. The process of creating is doing revision on their brain

This process runs effectively in teaching contour drawing, visual recognition drawing and observation skills. In fact all above mentioned is nothing new today, I believe most parents practising this ways but never discovered the effectiveness.

Right Brain Kids Art - How do I know whether my kid is ready to learn?

I came across this question from a few parents, majority are kids who

1. "back side got niddle" so called.... cannot sit still to do anythings... easily distracted.
2. short attention
3. super active child
4. insecure in classroom environment

Here's some tips and observation you may want to consider to do at home before you decide..
1. Interest area
-> some kids who as above 3 points mentioned, may able to pay longer attention when it comes to their interest area. If this is yes, your child is ready to learn, just need to share to the teacher that which are the interest area can help your child to learn

2. Adjust your own thinking
-> Perhaps this point is another consider area, because of the child behavior that over active, that the parent being long time "planted" the mind set that the child is over active that cannot sit still to learn anything, that is foever will never be ready to learn anything.

3. Patient, patient, patient
-> In my observation, the smartest child is always those active child, because their mind run very fast. I have a student Ker Ru, she is one of active child. Her mom, Peck Hiong is very patient mother. Ker Ru cannot sit on the chair to draw for long time, she attended mom's and tot in my class. What I did is work with mother to followup practise the class lesson at home. So, now on and off Peck Hiong will review to me that Ker Ru still can remember those lesson concept such as colour pencil technique, also done lots of recycle crafting at home.

4. Every active child parents are hardworking parents, never give up to make it a try
-> yes I very respect those parent who has active child, because the parents is very hardworking to find better way for the child in development and learning
-> You never try, never know, never learn and never grow / develop

5. find homely environment setup in those school
-> I believe not all the school are too much commercialised, there should have homely setup environment schools to make the child feel comfortable

6. every night before sleep heart to heart talk to the child
-> express your feeling to the child and encourage the child do the same. For example, if you want the child "sit still" to learn something for more than 30 mins, share your wish to the child, and share benefit to the child if the child can do so... let the child share to you what he / she feeling...

Right Brain Kids Art - West Coast Park Outdoor (2) - Who is hiding behind the eyes ?

This is another imagination creative drawing, right brain stimulation practise of draw recall from memory. The objective is to let the child recall the most in their memory of title "Who is Hiding behind the eyes ?" Doesn't matter that the child draw the same or different variety, as long as they use their "Right Brain" to recall for the image or animal they wana draw...in fact can draw "ghost or monster" too :D

Right Brain Kids Art - How to make my toddler focus to do things

This article is dedicated to Kelly, or whoever parents wana self help at home for young toddler

How to make my toddler focus and do things on table or within the boundary when drawing

1. Encourage your child to draft on big mahjong paper.
You can help to guide your child to draft on big mahjong paper. Create an interesting atmosphere during the session, such as play nursery rythm songs, while drawing, singing at
the same time.

2. Practise montessori exercise such as practical, math and sensorial.
Do it within a mat. You may want to consider from this blog http://theworkplan.blogspot.com/ Personally I like the idea of doing simple mathematic practise such as sorting on the mat. This at least can focus more than 10 mins, by given variety items to sort them. Our home has
lots of resource to use, no really need to buy montessori materials

3. Prepare lots of recycle paper as scribble paper for them. I recycle my old school days exam writing pad, some of my old exercise books that left over pages, my brother also donated some to me during his last housekeeping. I stappler them into small booklet, and let the child draw
anytime when in the mode of drawing. After the drawing, put a star marking or place sticker to encourage them to do this more. Slowly the child will be drawing more on the writing paper book, instead of all over the place in the house.

4. Reward the child when he/she do the right thing. The important is when the child do the right thing, give a reward like draw star or sticker. They will naturally repeating the right habbit.

5. Invest a big/small white boards. I have 2 big white boards at home, on is hanging type, one is standing type. So all the children can draw freely on the board. Normally I bought those cheapo white board maker for them to scribble.
Note : ensure the permenant marker is not able to reach for them to prevent "disasterous". I also have small white board for them to draw during sitting on study table.
